Supper with Sidney Part 2

The London–Sydney Marathon was a 10,000-mile car race from the United Kingdom to Australia. It was first run in 1968. One hundred cars participated, fifty-six cars finished. In 1993, a 25th anniversary race was held. Twenty-one of the original racers participated in the anniversary race. Local St. Michaels resident, Sidney Dickson finished both races.

Privately funded, Sidney was the only American entrant in the race. Not only did he successfully complete the 1968 race, but he built an identical 1968 race car to compete in for the 25th anniversary.

Both events were documented and filmed. In 1968, a CBS correspondent travelled the entire race as crew with Sidney. Charles Kuralt narrated the film and it was aired on national television. The 1993 event was filmed and narrated by Sidney.

The first event featuring the 1968 race was held on Friday, February 23rd. It was sold out! The second event featuring the 25th Anniversary race will be held on Friday, March 23rd.

The event will be held at the Miles River Yacht Club. A cash bar will be available with cocktails starting at 6:00. The Italian buffet dinner will begin at 6:30 PM. Join us as we journey from London to Sydney, with Sidney - the second time around.
